Marathon Kids

Marathon Kids is a FREE walking/running and nutritional program that promotes the development of a healthy lifestyle in your child. CVES’ students and faculty have been "actively" participating in this event for the past few years. Children run 26.2 miles (a full marathon distance) over the course of 6 months, in increments of ¼ or ½ mile at a time. This Marathon Kids program’s mission "is for the child to develop the love and habit of moving through space and to carry forward the power of muscular, nutritional and psychological well being."

Adventure Gym generally is the students’ favorite unit of the year. During the unit the students are challenged to swing across the Amazon River using the tire swings, climb Mt Everest, swing over the Grand Canyon, climb the cargo net, transverse the rock wall…. The Movement Education Equipment is similar to a large jungle gym. This equipment rotates among Baltimore County Public Elementary Schools and is used to teach students climbing skills.

Jump Rope for Heart is held each year. This year our 2nd-5th grade students
raised over $5,000 in donations for the American Heart Association. The Jump-A-Thon is a celebration of the efforts in collecting their donations. During the event, the jumpers have a great time participating in various challenging stations and competitions. They are taught about the symptoms of heart diseases and strokes and ways to keep their own heart healthy. CVES has many supportive families who generously donate toward this wonderful organization.

Sports Day is always one of the highlights of the students’ school year. This is one of the fun and exciting culminating events of the year where students, teachers and parent volunteers together for a relaxed day of endless fun with active games, dancing, and popsicles.

Sports Day 2012

Each year the 3rd-5th grade students are magically transformed into graceful dancers. Third graders learn various line dances. Fourth graders get to swing their partners during some lively Folk and Square Dancing and the talented fifth grade students learn Meringue, Tango and Swing. The exciting finality always comes at the end of the week, when the ladies and gentlemen of fifth grade dress up beautifully and impress the audience of parents and teachers with their elegant dancing talent.

The CVES Annual Pumpkin Run is held in the fall for all students. Fantastic fun and great sportsmanship is had by all as students and parents join in to cheer one another on.  Everyone is a winner when they try their hardest and finish the race set before them.

Intramurals are offered in the fall/winter/spring.  The student-athletes participate for a hour of various fun fitness activities. Generally this is advertised in the school newsletter.  The first 20 students that register online participate for that session.  A student cannot participate in more than one session a year.

After School Races
The After School Races are for 4th and 5th grade students who would like to compete against other students from neighboring schools in a one mile run.  This cross country event is held in the fall.
