The Communication Club is composed of a group of students who have great thinking ideas but need some guidance to express them in writing. This club, which meets about once a month, allows its members share their ideas in writing, applying them in authentic situations. Their big project is the annual Bowl-a-thon, which is a school wide fundraiser for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. Our members write letters to provide information and obtain permission from the bowling alley; write letters to the local police station to request support to help all of our students cross Providence Road safely; write thank you notes to community supporters, etc. In addition, they serve as supports to our youngest students during their hour of bowling. In the past they have created activity bags (complete with written instructions and materials) for children who are hospitalized and created a poster to promote the Together We Are Better poster contest.
